A warm welcome to Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home
Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home sits in 17 acres of private grounds in Brechfa Forest, with stunning views across the Duar Valley from almost every bedroom and communal area.
The home was a former sanitorium, originally opened by H.R.H Princess (Helena) Christian. Though every part of Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home has been thoroughly modernised, you’ll still find nods to its character and history, dating back to 1908.
Today, the house is home to no more than 44 elderly men and women requiring nursing, residential and dementia care . The nursing wing, which was added to the original building, balances a home-from-home setting with specialised nursing care. Most of our staff speak Welsh fluently, and all are dementia and memory care trained. They’re here to support your loved ones with day-to-day living for both long-term and respite stays, as well as end-of-life care and support.
Our home is managed by Amie Porter who won Welsh Businesswoman 2018.

I have worked in care for 17 years and can honestly say that I cannot think of a more rewarding career. I feel it is an honour to have met so many amazing individuals and to have given them the best possible care to ensure they have a happy and meaningful stay with us. Allt Y Mynydd is my home-from-home where I’ve been for 10 years; it’s friendly and welcoming and our dedicated staff treat the residents like their extended family with nothing being too much trouble.

Care
We’re proud of Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home’s family spirit. We build a community based on support, compassion and kindness, led by the range of types of care we provide for your loved one.
We have six registered nurses and 30 trained carers. Each uses an electronic care system to capture and record your loved one’s care at any time of day or night which allows us to continually review and understand their care needs.
Most of our team, from our qualified nurses and carers to our housekeepers, maintenance, dining teams and activity co-ordinators, speak and read Welsh as their first language.
Bedrooms & Facilities
With 44 bedrooms, your loved one will feel part of strong, close-knit community at Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home. Rooms are spread across two floors, each with its own lounge, with a lift and purpose-built ramp for ease of access. There are a range of rooms to suit budgets and needs. Yet every room offers views of the Welsh countryside, and can be furnished with your loved one’s personal belongings to make their true home-from-home.
No matter your loved one’s needs, their room will be fitted with its own 24-hour call button. That way, you’ll have total peace of mind that there’s someone there for them, any time of day or night.
Dining
Food and hydration are essential for our residents’ health and wellbeing. Your loved one can choose from a varied menu of classic, home-cooked meals prepared on-site with fresh ingredients, including vegetables and fruits grown by residents in our polytunnel!
Our chefs use local produce where they can, such as fruits, vegetables and dairy products from Jones and Davies, and create dishes that are nutritionally-balanced including vegetarian and free-from options. Morning and afternoon snacks include freshly-baked biscuits and cakes, and hot and cold drinks are always available.
Our residents can eat in the dining room, or take afternoon tea in the conservatory or on the outdoor patio area. Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home also has its own retro café, where your loved one can enjoy the comforting feeling of nostalgia within the home with 1940s and 1950s furniture, ornaments and crockery. Friends and family are always welcome to join for meals.
Activities
Your loved one’s days should be filled with the things they enjoy the most. We’ll take the time and care to understand their hobbies, interests and beliefs before they join us at Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home. Then, they can take part in our array of daily activities and social events to suit them in our own activities room or on a one-to-one basis.
Arts and crafts, pottery classes, baking, pet therapy, chair-based exercises, afternoon matinees, dancing and karaoke are just a few examples of the activities that regularly take place.
For those who love the outdoors, there is plenty of space for a gentle stroll or peaceful seating areas to enjoy the surrounding countryside. And our polytunnel greenhouse is ready for your loved one if they like to plant and potter.
Our residents can enjoy the personal services of our on-site hairdresser and visiting professional therapists who provide treatments such as physiotherapy and relaxing hand aromatherapy massages.
We also have our own private minibus for trips out to the local garden and shopping centres or even the local pub for a meal and small beverage. Resident choices have also included trips to Abaraeron beach, The Royal Welsh Show and Ten Pin bowling at Xcel Bowl Carmarthen.
We believe in supporting our local community and often visit local schools for seasonal events or support the local fetes and carnivals.
